Loved how author arranged the tunes you’ll love it especially the o Carolan pieces. Most of book is in standard tuning a few with a string tuned different. Cd is nice as well, if you’re new to finger style guitar learn the melody first then add the lower notes laterVery nice arrangements and tune selection. Many are similar to Glenn Weiser’s excellent celtic arrangements (buy his books!) All are in standard or drop-d tuning. Some are very easy, some range well into intermediate. No picking fingerings are supplied, but the tab is good (I did find one mistake printed in the tab: a figure was marked on the 3rd and 4th strings that should be on the 4th and 5th strings)Excellent. Beautiful music. I only wish that it were either just tabs or notation, as I sometimes get confused when both are present. The CD included with the book is also enjoyable to listen to.Some facts about this book:a. It is a set of traditional Irish pieces for fingerstyle/classical guitar with music notation and TABb. There is no instruction, just musicc. The very listenable CD is performed on classical guitar with a very sensitive, lyrical feel. Beautiful.d. The music is accessible and most is straightforward and not complex to play (if you play at an intermediate level)e. The arrangements are in standard tuning. Often celtic music is arranged in altered tunings. I prefer the standard tuning arrangements because the bass notes possible in this formula are more interesting.f. The arrangements are of the same sort as in Glenn Weisers great books, slightly less difficult for the most part, though. The book was first published in the 80's.There are lots of well known tunes from this genre including quite a few melancholy Airs which I am really enjoying playing. I would say the difficulty ranges between about grade 2 and grade 5 standard. I particularly like the arrangements with alternative tunings which is something I haven't tried before but they give a new interesting sound to my guitar. My only criticism is that the example songs are supplied on a CD - who has a CD player or a CD drive on their laptop anymore ?. MP3 download would be better please.I bought this on a whim but discovered it is a gem. The pieces are mostly in standard tuning with some dropped D. The arrangements are quite simple but they sound gorgeous on the accompanying CD, which is pleasant to listen to when not learning. There's a really nice array of tunes here too, ones that aren't often found in other publications. Very pleased to add this to my collection of 'tried/trusted' repertoire.Good book but I would have preferred a little guidance with fingering etc but still nice with the history of each and all of the songsVery accessible, notes, tab, and CD! - some pieces easy and some more challenging - excellent.Over 20 songs, an excellent addition to your repertoire, self-standing concert-standard pieces, beautifully played on classical guitar (the cd is worth the price in itself). The chords are by and large simple, but played with feeling and an intuitive lyrical sense of timing.
