Essential for the Jazz player; but truly, perhaps the guide for all guitarists, and the gateway for understanding scales at last for those who've had difficulty with other methods. Be forewarned; as with Chucks chord book, this is not a casual read. This slim volume, part two of The Chuck Wayne System for guitar, is endlessly useful. I keep it with with the chord system, ready to help me when It's time for serious study. As with the chord book, clear diagrams and explanations integrate smoothly into an indispensable guide. Compact in size, there is a lifetime of knowledge, from one of the worlds great guitarists, distilled into Chuck's books. Although a slim volume, you can dive into this for hours and still find fresh inspiration. These are some of the most comprehensive, and useful scales I've ever encountered. Once you get the hang of the picking patterns, and fingering, they are not difficult to play at all.Sadly, the company has never released the arpeggio guide, which was the third part of his system. This can be approximated in a couple of sources you can find online. If you're serious about guitar, you need this. It belongs, with the chord book, in that select, top shelf of guitar study books that are timeless classics.
