Grammy winning guitarist Mark Hanson contributes a dozen beautiful solo acoustic guitar instrumentals on "Love Songs for Guitar". Current titles like "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones, mixed with chestnuts like the Beatles "Something" and "Best of My Love" by the Eagles on this delightful compilation.
I collect solo guitar music and this one is surely a winner. Mark Hanson is also a great teacher of fingerstyle guitar and I got this album because it has "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" (from his "Great American Songbook" transcriptions book). I'm wishing he also comes out with transcriptions for the other 11 of these great arrangements, because this was a pleasant surprise, as the songs here are from various decades(Beatles, Eagles, Tom Petty,Louis Armstrong) and there's no monotony in his arrangements,as might easily happen with solo guitar arrangements-they're all fresh and interesting. I especially like his arrangement of Tom Petty's "Breakdown",to me an unlikely candidate for solo guitar, but it rocks along beautifully, with the main guitar riff pretty much intact.Ironically, "I Left My Heart..." might be the least pleasing of the tunes here and I loved his uptempo version so much, I bought this album, not having any idea of the other songs.
