Product Description

The guitarist Edoardo Catemario was born in Naples. After winning awards as a young man at the most prestigious European guitar competitions, including first prize at the "Andres Segovia" contest in Granada in 1991, he now has a successful career performing at major concert halls throughout the world. He has made a succession of highly regarded recordings during this period, many of which have been released on the ARTS label. The disc entitled 'Italian Virtuoso' which featuring the music of Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Paganini and Giuliani amongst others, was particularly singled out for praise by the likes of the American Record Guide, which referred to the performances as... "consistently spirited and energetic", also stating that ..."his technique is formidable and his tempos fearless". This excellent account of Giuliani's wonderfully lyrical guitar concertos, performed here on Giuliani's original Guitar Pons l'An of 1825 originally appeared as the cover-mount CD of the January 2004 BBC Music Magazine. It is now being made available as a hybrid SACD. Although born in Bisceglie, Mauro Giuliani's centre of study was in Barletta where he moved with his brother Nicola in the first years of his life. His first instrumental training was on the cello, an instrument which he never completely abandoned, and he probably also studied the violin. Subsequently he devoted himself to the guitar, becoming a very skilled performer on it in a very short time. He went on to define a new role for the guitar in the context of European music.
