Casteluovo-Tedesco was not a guitarist so it is doubly impressive that he should write so effectively for the instrument. He did, of course, have a few tips from a fellow named Segovia. There are many recordings of his guitar pieces including the wonderful set called 24 Capriccios di Goya. What makes this CD so special is the superb playing of Susan Mebes. I have owned this album for many years. The fact that the performance gets more beautiful as the years go by says more than any analysis could offer.
